New category! I would like to make weekly shout-outs to other bloggers who pass through my pages. If I notice that you have been here then I will try and take a look at your blog and if something about it captures my attention on that day then I will make a shout-out about you, perhaps a review, and post a link to you. Let’s share the love. x

Sharing Korean Youtube Channels that I really like

I accidentally slipped into the world of Hallyu = Korean wave, which encompasses K-pop, Kdrama and more. This happened in very early 2021 and I am totally hooked. So much so I even bought a Samsung phone (seriously!) This post has LOTS of video links to Korea related content. Youtubers, Musicians, Language lessons.. and more.

My 3 favourite Asia Life-Travel-Food Youtube Channels

3 Family friendly Youtubers sharing life, food, culture in Thailand, Korea and China Paddy Doyle in Thailand Paddy Doyle in Thailand is a friendly, wholesome, family friendly Youtuber, currently exploring all 77 provinces of Thailand on a little motorbike that he named ‘Dreamy’. Great viewing for anyone who has always wondered: “Why aren’t we seeing more about Thailand outside of the well known tourist hotspots?” Paddy is doing a great service to broadening all of our horizons and the next time we visit we should all take a leaf out of his book and get off the comfortable beaten path because it’s a big country with so much more to offer than the same same places.  From his Channel’s About page: “About Paddy — I LOVE to entertain, educate, and inspire people to get out there and have adventures, so let’s explore the world, eat new and fantastic foods, and let’s just spread some positive vibes as we do so!” ABOVE is one of his recent videos that I missed to watch and I only noticed because I went …

This was my favourite web content this July (great to read, hear, watch any month of the year)

I discovered Roads and Kingdoms as I was looking up Anthony Bourdain’s body of work left behind. I was trying to find out who edited the intro to Parts Unknown, his travel & food series. The introduction is so multilayered and absolutely amazing, if you haven’t seen it ever and are interested in seeing a great (really great) video edit then click. (The intro sequence that I am referring to always starts about 60 seconds into the beginning of each episode.) But back to Roads and Kingdoms, we can talk about Anthony Bourdain again soon. Roads and Kingdoms in their own words: “Roads & Kingdoms is dedicated to a simple idea: the more you know, the better you travel. We use talented local journalists, deep storytelling, and the good things in life—food, music, booze—to inform and inspire about destinations around the globe. R&K won the 2017 James Beard Publication of the Year award and is a winner of SATW’s Best Travel Journalism Site award. We focus on useful information for armchair and aisle-seat travelers alike. The late …

We are petsitting again

After a several month long break from everything caused by an intrusive health issue that sent me to a Chinese Medicine Doctor while I waited to eventually to have surgery we are back! Petsitting was never really meant to be a career move, but here in San Francisco it really is a sort of low hanging fruit of income options when life allows the flexibility with regards to taking the time out to visit or stay with somebody else’s pets. We are starting to build up repeat clients, who will give us a call before asking anybody else to look after their pets. To get started with petsitting as a ‘side-hustle’ we recommend using Yahoo Groups, neighbourhood message boards & Rover. Build repeat clients over time. If you would like to start petsitting using the booking agent Rover then you can follow this link to become a petsitter: https://refer.rover.com/s/Birgit5 I will get a bonus from Rover if you sign up AND book your first petsitting appointment within 90 days of signing up. Do read about the …

Money saving tips from a frugal person:

#1 is my newest tip. A coupon website that seems brilliant! I found out about ‘Honey‘ today. It is a website that searches the internet for money off coupons, use of the website is free of charge and from the research I have done so far it looks like there is no negative hook. So I feel confident sharing the sign up link with you. Follow it and check if your an find a coupon the next time before you buy your regular brand new shoes. These codes seem to not be limited to clothing. So go explore! Save money. But don’t buy things you don’t need! joinhoney.com/ref/1ktfzl   Check it out before using it, but it seems like an amazing tool to me. (I looked them up on Reviewopedia ) #2 is another money savings tip and this one is thoroughly tried and tested by myself and several of my friends is: Transferwise! If you use my link to sign up and make your first international transfer then you will get your first transfer for free and …

It is time for the weekly: shout-out #3

So by now you get the idea right? I try and make a weekly shout out about one of the fellow bloggers whom I notice are passing through my pages. So here is a link to Adventures in Southeast Asia a blog by Rachel Wingo who relocated herself to Cambodia for work in Phnom Penh. I will enjoy taking an occasional look on her blog to see what she has discovered and how her writing develops. Her blog is quite new still as she only just relocated a few months ago. But I love to hear about and from other women who don’t let anything hold them back and try out another way of life. If you are reading this and are over 30 then I would be particularly delighted to hear about your ‘not-standard-normal’ life. I am currently in a state of flux and have been uncertain which way to move forward for some time. I think it really helps to hear about other adults out there, who live unconventionally but don’t consider themselves drifters …

First Shout-out

Shoutout: I think it would be nice to make a weekly shout-out to bloggers whom I notice wandering through my blog pages. I will try and take a look at their pages and if something catches my eye then I will post a shout-out to them here, with an occasional review and always a link. So the first shout-out is to Lakshmi Loves to Shop. I was attracted to the blog because of it’s title and because of my own occasional magpie qualities (loving shiny things that glitter and glimmer) and of course because I have been to India and India is often on my thoughts. Such a complex place, beauty and brutal honesty with regards to revealing so many harsh aspects of life, poverty, cast systems, gender inequality that can manifest in cruel ways. But  India is more than I could possibly attempt to capture with a few lines in this blog. Take a look around Lakshmi Loves to Shop perhaps you will be inspired.
